Basketweave Stitch

Basketweave stitch is the most durable of the three tent stitches and the one we recommend for large background areas. It is worked in diagonal rows that alternate direction, creating a woven pattern on the back of the canvas.

This structure distributes tension evenly and helps prevent the canvas from warping over time. Basketweave uses more thread than continental and half cross stitch, but the payoff is a strong, stable foundation that holds up beautifully for generations to come, especially on pillows, stockings, and other heavy use pieces.
