Most needlepoint threads are sold in skeins, which are long loops of fiber loosely twisted together. Before cutting, fully open the skein and lay it out so all the strands are aligned. To keep the thread from tangling once it is cut, we recommend gathering the skein at the midpoint and tying a small piece of thread tightly around the center.
Once secured, cut through the bottom loop at each end of the skein. This gives you perfectly sized individual strands that stay neat and organized. This method prevents knots and saves a lot of frustration, especially for beginners.
